Utrecht Chamber Choir was founded in January 1952. We are a choir for mixed voices, all dedicated amateurs between 25 and 60 years of age. The choir’s rich tradition has featured programs including well-known works from European repertory, but we also like to experiment with twentieth-century compositions. We are committed to the ongoing improvement of the quality of our singers and the choir as a whole.
The choir has regularly ventured abroad. In the spring of 1999 we sang a
series of concerts in Collioure, in the south of France, and in May 2001 we had
an exchange with the Renaissance Singers of London, leading to five concerts in
England and Holland. On the 26 January 2002 we staged a festive opening concert
on the occasion of the choir's 50th anniversary, featuring Bach's Magnificat and
Purcell's Ode for St Cecilia’s Day, with a professional orchestra and
soloists. A more recent programme focused on music by Dutch composers and was
presented during a concert tour to Bulgaria in spring 2003. The autumn concerts of 2003 (the last series to be
conducted by JanJoost van Elburg) were realised in collaboration with the
Amsterdam Lelikoor.

Wolfgang Lange studied the oboe with Han de Vries, Gerhard Turetschek (Vienna) and Christian Schneider (Cologne). He was a freelance oboist in various orchestras and is the co-founder and regular oboist of the Helios Ensemble.
He studied choral conducting with Barend Schuurman at the Conservatory of Rotterdam and pursued the “second phase” of his education with Louis Buskens at the Conservatory of Tilburg. He received his ‘Master’s Degree’ in 2003.
Hij studied orchestral direction with Julius Kalmar at the Hans Swarowsky Institution, Milano. He enjoyed a private education and practice lessions with, among others, Timo Nuoranne, conductor of the Finnish Radio Chamber Choir.
Apart from being the conductor of the Utrecht Chamber Choir, Wolfgang is the musical director of
the Helios Chamber Choir, the Waterland Choir (Purmerend),
the Eindhoven Chamber Choir and the Luna Chamber Choir. He performed a wide range of choral
repertory spanning five centuries with these choirs, a cappella as well as accompanied by orchestras.
Wolfgang takes singing lessons from Ronald Klekamp, and has up to 2006 been a project singer with the professional chamber choir Studium Chorale, Maastricht.
